An open letter to our local Science Fiction Fans,
Greetings!
This year, Starbase Columbus continues being owned by The Federation, a Star Trek organization co- founded by new Starbase owner Russ Haslage and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Many changes have occurred at Starbase in the past year....new staff members and after 25 years, a brand new location at Eastland mall!
Amidst all of the changes though some things will remain, among them our annual Out of this World Festival! We're pleased to announce that our 10th Annual Festival will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 11:00 - 6:00 PM. This is the first time the festival will be held indoors!
The purpose of this event is for fans of all genres of sci-fi, outer space, fantasy, comic books, etc. to come together with other like-minded fans to showcase their talents, whether it be cosplay, model building, writing, art, music or something else. It's also for clubs to come to recruit new members and raise money for the charities they support. Charity work and giving back to the community is an extremely important aspect of these organizations, and they have fun while doing it!
This is an opportunity to bring people together and broaden their horizons about what organizations and resources are available locally to science fiction fans.
And let's face it.....attending a major convention is Expensive! Our family friendly event offers free admission and free parking. Donations are appreciated of course, but not mandatory. Everyone who participates at this event, including the entertainers are volunteering their time to be here. The organizations who participate are doing fundraising activities or selling items to benefit charities in our community, some of which include the Mid Ohio Food Bank, the Firefighters 4 Kids Toy Drive, agencies that help the homeless and others.
We hope that all our local Sci-fi fans will come out on April 21 to support this event which has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 10 years! What started out with one tent and a handful of fans has now grown into a full fledged street fair....think of it as Comfest for Sci-Fi Geeks!
Sincere thanks to all those who have and will continue to support us in the future.
Best Regards,
Melinda Coates
